MagicCard.ca MagicCard
Introduction: I went to the Toronto Comdex show last week. I was not expecting much other than dealing with hoards of people, long lines and boring displays. Going down to the exibit floor, I was handed a paper flyer to win $500 dollars when I visited the MagicCard booth. Woohoo! Another gimick to get my attention, time and all that good stuff. Needless to say, the show was a write off until I came across the MagicCard booth which was the last aisle I visited and, man, I am glad I stopped to see the booth. MagicCard.ca's product called the MagicCard was designed for the Isreali Army for securing their computers and networks from the loss of data from hackers and theft. To do this, Rogev has spent the last seven years developing the MagicCard to work at the machine level to secure you hard drive data in a very unique way. The hard drive is an easy access point for people to steal sensitive data or retrieve data that a user thought they had deleted. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it is not there. The MagicCard basically prevents the hard drive from storing any data that was not already on the hard drive before the MagicCard was installed. The goal of the MagicCard is to prevent downtime and reduce system adminstrators time rebuilding company computers. There are several software solutions available now that restore a computer back to it's original state everytime a user logs in but this relys on a server to supply the information and requires the latest network hardware to deliver that information quickly. But what if the operating system fails, the registry is corrupt, the server or network is down? You have users not working. The MagicCard works at the hardware level, not relying on the operating system, to prevent down time and does not rely on the network or server to deliver the information. Most companies have users who like to tweak and tinker while they work have computers at information kiosks or like libraries, provide web access terminals. These are constantly being used and abused by people who like things to be displayed there way. The MagicCard allows people to do this but rebooting the computer puts the computer back to it's original configuration, ready for the next user. When the MagicCard is installed you also get another key benefit, virus protection. No, it is not an anti-virus package, but it provides this because of the way it functions. If the computer that the MagicCard is installed becomes infected with Klex or Nimda, you simply reboot the computer. When it reboots, the computer is back to square one. Clean, fast and reliable. The MagicCard works by taking all the information about the BIOS, the operating system and contents of the selected partition and converts it into binary code and stores this information in a hidden dynamic buffer that uses less than 1% of the hard disk.
